FAQ

Welcome to the StumbleOn FAQ (Frquently Asked Questions):

*Never use the site-wide activity feed for spamming or other commercial purposes of any kind whatsoever. It is not allowed, period.

1. Create your own profile with StumbleOn. Remember, it’s quick, easy, and it’s free! Just fill in the first six (6) required fields and you’re in, though you will not actually be able to log in or start building your profile until you have received your account activation email and activated your account. Once this is done you can then fill out the rest of your profile as you see fit. It is all up to you, and is under your complete control. You’re kind of like your very own Wizard of Oz here. There are total privacy controls for all settings in your profile as well, except for your name and profile type which are public. We don’t ever change them on you. Registration steps and tips are as follows;

  • Your “StumbleOn Username”, the name that your account will be under and the one that will show as your profile link, etc., must be in all lowercase and be at least 4 characters long, or more. Do not register generic keywords, well known personalities, profanities, copyrighted names, business names, trade names, etc. unless authorized to do so. If you do register one of the forbidden words or terms (google = NO. pollywollygirl = YES!) your account will be deleted and you will have to start all over again.
  • The valid email address that you register with is never shown, shared, sold, spammed, nor made public by StumbleOn.
  • Please be sure to think of a really secure password (e.g; 3fR%1aXc+wv$1) for your account, which you will be required to enter twice during registration.
  • Then fill in “Your Name”. A first name only will do just fine. You can always change this field later on, but your StumbleOn Username cannot be changed.
  • Choose the type of profile that you wish to start; Personal, Business, Professional, Political, Artist, Band, Comedy, Sports, News, Entertainment, Law or Student.
  • Now click “Almost Done” at the bottom of the registration page. Please be sure to activate your account via the activation email that was sent to you. This is a very important step in the process as it helps establish your account correctly. The process of receiving this email may take up to 30 minutes or more. Check your spam folder!
  • After you click “Almost Done” you are taken to the avatar screen where you can either keep the default one provided or upload a new one for yourself. You must then perform the email activation link step before you can do anything else at all with StumbleOn.
  • After you have activated your account via your activation email you can then login with your Username and Password. You will be automatically directed to your profile.

2. Filling out your profile is very easy. Under “Profile” just click “Edit Profile” and choose between the four (with many more to come as we grow and innovate the process) different box tabs – [My Name] [My Personal Profile] [My Social Profiles] [My Point Of View]. Since you already filled in the two required fields under [My Name] when you registered you can just skip this part and go directly to what will be the bulk of your profile under [My Personal Profile], and then move on from there to each box tab until you are satisfied with your profile. Fill out as much or as little of it as you please, and choose your privacy settings for each entry into your profile as you see fit. That’s all there is to it! Please don’t forget to read over our Terms of Service in the upper-right tab (TOS) and our Privacy policy as you agree to them all when you register your account with StumbleOn. Please do not register more than one account per person.

“Wait!?!”, “But where is all of the crazy advertising, third-party apps and other such garbage trying to access and clutter up my account?”, you ask. There are none, and we aim (hope) to always keep it that way.

* Fact; Most people will spend less than an hour total with StumbleOn signing up for an account, filling out their profile information, navigating the site and so on and then they are off to bigger and better things (namely their real lives), only coming back occasionally to check friend requests, private messages, make basic updates, perform general maintenance and so forth and so on, but only as they see fit. Again, this isn’t another Facebook, Twitter or MySpace that you will constantly have to nurse, unless you want to that is! It is geared more towards the mindset of a set-it and forget-it utility.

Now for some other odds & ends…

  • We just wanted to answer the following question right from the start; Are we StumbleUpon? The short answer to that is no. We used to own StumbleUpon.com, which subsequently formed in November 2001 into it’s current incarnation. The founders had contacted us and asked if we were interested in selling or perhaps leasing StumbleUpon.com to them while we were the owners during the years 1999-2001, but we declined and told them that we didn’t want any confusion or like websites/names. Obviously, in the end it didn’t quite turn out that way. We have owned and operated StumbleOn.com since February 1999 (which makes us around 12 years old!), almost 3 years before StumbleUpon and their downloadable toolbar came into existence. StumbleOn was live and helping folks “stumble” the web for sites, links, news and so forth long before anyone else. We here at StumbleOn were (and still are) the original stumbling trailblazers!
  • What happens if you don’t activate your account via the activation code that is sent to you via email at the time you register for your profile is that your account will look like this;

This user has been marked as a spammer

  • You don’t want this, so please activate your account via the activation email that was sent to you. The activation email may take between a few minutes, and even up to 2 hours or more in rare circumstances, to reach your email inbox. Please don’t forget to check your spam box as well if you don’t receive it.
  • Ok, so now that you’ve activated your account via the activation email what do you do next? The following graphic illustration and text explains;

StumbleOn Profile Types

  • Once you’ve activated your account via the email activation link/code you can then log into your profile via the Username and password that you’d registered with on StumbleOn. You will automatically be taken to your profile page upon login. The two required fields upon signup, “Your Name” and “Profile Type”, will show under the [My Name] profile box. To update or fill in the rest of your profile, of which you have full privacy control over, just click “Update Profile” under “Profile” and then click on each box tab – [My Name] [My Personal Profile] [My Business Profile] [My Artist Profile] [My Student Profile] [My Social Profiles] [My Point Of View] – and update and change each one as you see fit, and as often as you want. Any questions or other fields that you do not want to fill in or answer will simply not show up anywhere in your profile. It will be just like they didn’t even exist in the first place. Play with it a little and you’ll soon get the hang of it.
  • If you like what you see here at StumbleOn, and want to build up some “Friends”, then why not make use of our nifty “Send Invites” function in your profile and bring some of the folks that you know along for the ride. We’d really appreciate the good word-of-mouth that you, our valued members, could provide us with as we would like to build up StumbleOn and our members base as organically and grassroots as possible. Thanks again for signing up with StumbleOn Profiles! We truly appreciate your patronage!
  • But what if I want to delete my StumbleOn profile? Well, we hope you will reconsider and stay put, but if that’s your preference then just do the following – under “Settings” in your profile click “Delete Account” and then consider yourself completely and fully deleted, though please choose wisely as this is a permanent move and cannot ever, ever, ever be undone:

Delete your StumbleOn account.

Check back soon for much more of all of the goodies that you ever wanted to know about StumbleOn!

Thanks!
