StumbleOn.com VS. StumbleUpon.com: I've been getting questions ever since around late 2001, and very recently again, about a similar domain name StumbleUpon.com and how it relates to this web site StumbleOn.com and to answer that simply I'll just state the following information: 1. StumbleOn.com was first registered by me on February 20th, 1999 ( as well as registered under an LLC in Washington State USA) and was/is an active domain name and web site years before StumbleUpon.com ever came to be. As well, the StumbleOn.com logo with the figure shown to "stumble" on the domain name is the original legacy logo and has been in use since early 1999. 2. I had actually registered and owned the domain name StumbleUpon.com several years before it came to it's current ownership. I do believe they'd inquired on possibly purchasing the StumbleOn line in some form or another during my ownership of the StumbleUpon.com domain name. 3. The phrases such as "StumbleOn", "Stumbling", "StumbleOn It!", "StumbleOn Your .Com!". and so forth were all in full use with StumbleOn.com long before the current ownership of StumbleUpon.com made any such use or variation of them in any way, shape or form. 4. The idea of gathering and ranking the best sites online and "stumbling" on them was first used by StumbleOn.com as far back as 1999, again several years before the current site of StumbleUpon.com was in use of such terminology and/or ideas. All one needs to do is search former WHOIS records during the 1999.2001 period and they should be able to find the above information. I have the actual registrar emails, paperwork, billing etc showing said information. Also, by using the wayback engine on Archive.org you can search http://www.stumbleon.com and you can see for yourself the use of said "stumble" terminology, site ranking, etc. was all in use several years before being employed by StumbleUpon.com itself, which was started in it's current incarnation in late-2001, almost a full three years after StumbleOn.com was registered and put into use by me. So to lay the questions to rest, I and StumbleOn.com were definitely first, and well known to be first, out of the gates with this one... I hope that this information thoroughly answers any and all of your comments, questions and/or concerns. StumbleOn! |
